Reading
Below are some reading recommendations for anyone interested in learning more about the topics that I discuss on this blog.
Economics
- Economics in One Lesson (pdf) by Henry Hazlitt - A great overview of economics from an Austrian perspective. This is a great first read for someone looking to dive into economics.
- The Case Against the Fed (pdf) by Murray Rothbard - Rothbard's writing is always logical and easy to understand. This is probably the best and most logically laid out case for abolishing the Federal Reserve that I have ever read. Our country would probably be a lot better off if everyone read this book.
- The Causes of the Economic Crisis (pdf) by Ludwig Von Mises - A very interesting collection of essays from the time of the Great Depression, all by one of the original Austrian Economists.
Banking/Money
- The Mystery of Banking (pdf) by Murray Rothbard - A fantastic and easy-to-follow analysis of the banking system in the United States, how it "works," and how it came to be. This one should also be essential reading for anyone looking to understand our banking system.
- The Case for a 100 Percent Gold Dollar by Murray Rothbard - An essay making a great case for a 100 percent gold-backed currency.
Education
- Education: Free and Compulsory by Murray Rothbard - Great analysis of compulsory schooling vs. free-market schooling, as well as the very important history of where and how national compulsory schools began.
Blogs
- Mish - One of the best economic bloggers around.
- Washington's Blog - Great blog discussing issues mostly relevant to the U.S Economy and its politics.
- Hussman - Weekly commentary by John Hussman that is always a great read.
- Calculated Risk - Lots of charts and analysis of the economy (mostly in the U.S., but sometimes other countries as well)
